11/25/15 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Friday

Did you have a nice Thanksgiving?  Did you overeat or were you right on track with what you planned to eat?  Well, either way you know what you need to do this week to ensure that you don't have a weight gain.  We had a very nice Thanksgiving with our family.  We still woke up in the morning and did about a two hour hike.  It's also nice because the dogs get to go out before they're cooped up by themselves all night.  However, sometimes the best laid plans don't turn out just how you planned them.  I had eaten foods all day that didn't have added fat because I knew the evening meal would have plenty of them already.  I had balanced my meals so that I could have a 1/2 cup of starch and 3 oz. of turkey.  I made a salad that had fat-free Feta and used fat-free dressing, again, because of all the fat probably on the turkey and in the sweet potatoes.  I also followed through in making my crustless, fat-free, sugar-free pumpkin pie with fat-free Cool Whip.  I mean, could you ask for a better plan on Thanksgiving, honestly?.  Unfortunately the turkey ended being finished so late that I overate (which sounds ridiculous)) on the salad with a ton of fat-free feta and cranberries.  I probably ended up having a cup of my sweet potatoes (which were highly fatty) from being so hungry and because my son was just a plain terror by the time dinner was ready I was trying to stuff my face because I didn't know when I"d get another second to eat.  Having a 13 month old does not make for an "elegant" adult, quiet Thanksgiving!  Obviously other houses aren't baby proofed so my husband and I took turns chasing after him for six hours.  By the time dinner was ready, and my son let me eat, the turkey was gone except for scraps (I maybe had about an ounce) and I was exhausted.  It was a moot point anyway, I had eaten so much salad and sweet potatoes that I was full anyway.  I felt awful because we literally ate and ran but our son had turned into his alter ego and was destroying whatever lay in his path.  He really was good up until about the sixth hour - by then he just needed his bed.  LOL, needless to say, Thanksgiving was much easier last year when he was still a newborn!
