I saw the funniest quote about going to the gym. It was a satirical article about 27 Rules of Conquering the Gym.
It reminded the readers that if a gym was designed to instantly make you feel better about yourself, it would be called a bar. There is some truth in this comedic statement. It focuses on how people are intimidated about going to a gym because they feel unfit, or pudgy. There are some ways to help you get over these fears, because the payoff is well worth it!
-Join with a friend. Peer pressure can be a positive motivator if it gets you to show up and exercise.
-Find a gym that fixes the issues of A) location, B)cleanliness, C) updated equipment, D) price, E) availability of programs, F) *no hard-core sales tactics.
-Create a goal for your experience (i.e. - lose 10 lb., feel more energetic, or gain muscle tone).
-Try a class you’ve never done, or were intimidated by before such as Tae-Bo, Spinning, Pure Barre, or yoga).
Summer is a difficult time for many parents to attend a gym, though many may have access to child care. Try to do a neighborhood time swap with a friend (I’ll watch your kids Wednesday for you to attend a class and I’ll go Thursday).
You will feel more energetic and it may build self-esteem when you do something positive for continued good health.
