Headache is a one of the most common reasons people visit their family doctors. There are many types of headache, but the tension headache is the most common and often confused with more serious migraine headaches. Tension headaches are caused by muscle spasms and joint dysfunction and migraine headaches are caused by blood vessels. A recent study showed that over 1/3 of the population suffers from tension headaches.
A recent research study shows that the muscles of the neck play an important role in tension headaches. When you are being treated for these types of headaches, the muscles of the head and neck must be part of the treatment. Reduction of muscle spasms or over sensitive muscles (trigger points) have a profound effect on the treatment of this condition and must be part of a comprehensive treatment plan. For more information please discuss this with your doctor.
